Roger Curtis Green papers, BANC MSS 2005/269 p, The Bancroft Library, University of California, Berkeley.
Roger Curtis Green was born in New Jersey in 1932. At sixteen, his family relocated to New Mexico where his interest in archaeology flourished. Green completed his bachelors and masters degrees in New Mexico before enrolling in the doctoral program at Harvard. He did his doctoral work in New Zealand and went on to conduct research in French Polynesia on the islands of Moorea and Mangareva. Green is well known for his work on obsidian dating and provenance, an invaluable tool in Pacific archaeology. He spent most of his academic career teaching in the Anthropology Department at the University of Auckland but periodically held teaching positions at The University of Hawaii at Manoa, the American Museum of Natural History in New York, the Bernice P. Bishop Museum in Honolulu, and Te Whare Wananga o Awanuiarangi in Whakatane, New Zealand. Green died in 2009.
